The Department of Education estimates that nearly 4 million students will receive Pell Grants this year, totaling $8.75 billion. Approximately 9 million students and parents will borrow $34.7 billion through the Stafford and PLUS programs. Statistically, aid from the Student Financial Assistance programs (Federal
Pell Grants, Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants, Federal Work Study, Federal Perkins Loans, Federal Stafford Loans and Federal PLUS Loans) is roughly 2/3 of all college student aid awards.

Be advised that many companies now provide Tuition Benefits which offer employees partial or complete payment or reimbursement for college tuition costs. The advent of online college degrees and tuition benefits have made obtaining a degree possible for those who previously may not have had the time or money. More and more employers are willing to pay college tuition costs in order to attract and retain more educated employees. Ask your employer or prospective employer if they provide tuition benefits or would be willing to help with tuition.
